Julie Leahy and Kath Bowyer met in 2015 whilst working together and sharing a natural connection, mutual love of fabric and design, decided to form JOOLKAT.  They spent two years experimenting, playing with ideas and developing an exciting and ever evolving range of products.  JOOLKAT was officially launched as a business in 2017 with their signature style.  Whilst deliberating over what to call themselves, they just combined their names Jool & Kat… it was only supposed to be a temporary solution… however, it stuck!

Julie grew up in Hampshire and comes from a family of dressmakers who were originally from New Zealand. She had a stall on Camden Market in the early 1980’s selling handmade punk inspired clothes and accessories. Textiles has always been a big part of her life.  She has a BA (Hons) in Ceramics from Harrow and an MA in Contemporary Art and Professional Practice. She has been teaching Ceramics and Fashion & Textiles for the past 14 years.

Kath is an Essex girl (born and bred), with a passion for plants, mid-century modern design and all things print.  She graduated from Bath School of Art with a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design, where her love of screen printing really began.  After many years working as a graphic designer, she took some sewing classes, got the bug and that’s where the next journey began! Leaving the clean, commercial world of graphics behind, she has been working as a textile print technician for the past 4 years, most recently with fashion & textile degree students; where she loves nothing better than getting covered in ink!
